20 Minute Magic: Asynchronous Tools for Student Interaction
In this quick, 20-minute session, we will highlight several technology tools that can be used to enhance student engagement and interaction in asynchronous environments. We will focus on two tools in VIULearn: discussions and groups, as well as the VIUBlogs platform. We will also discuss collaborative documents like google docs and google slides, paying attention to how they can be used as well as privacy (FIPPA-compliant) concerns.

In this quick-fire session, we will highlight three technology tools for student interaction and communication that can be used in synchronous environments. First, we will look at ZOOM, unpacking polling features and break-out rooms. We will also take a look at using clickers in the classroom, as well as the emerging popularity of web-based real-time polling and quiz tools like Quizlet and Socrative.
This session aims to give some quick ideas and inspiration for student engagement using technology tools in synchronous settings.

The VIUBlogs service can be used by faculty and students to communicate with peers and/or the community, write collectively, build a portfolio, or engage in reflective writing. This interactive session is designed to get faculty started on designing and creating content on VIUBlogs. We will overview the basic tools and common tasks in Wordpress, and showcase some existing successful projects on VIUBlogs.

Enrich Media Content with Video Quizzing
Rich media content can increase student engagement in online and blended learning experiences. With the Video Quiz feature in VIUTube, you can further draw learners in and allow opportunities for self assessment and reflection. This tool allows you to insert multiple choice or true/false questions and reflection points throughout your video.
In this session we will demonstrate the video quiz features and discuss ways you can use media more broadly to enrich student learning.
