As well as learning some of the key tools, faculty will apply core design principles (learning outcomes aligned with assessment and evaluation, engaging learning strategies) to the redesign or design of a fully online or blended course. Our goal is to explore the richness available in the online environment that extends beyond uploading documents, running quizzes and hosting discussions. Blended and online approaches to teaching give faculty more tools to improve students’ outcomes. At VIU, we have multiple campuses, diverse student groups, and distance learners, all with different pressures on their schedules. By adopting an online or blended approach, we are able to reach more of these students, giving them the opportunity to organize their learning around the many other competing demands on their time. The benefits extend into our physical classrooms, too: better access to hig quality online learning opportunities means increasing chances of retention and completion, and improving the overall results of all students, wherever they are studying. The fundamental principles of good online teaching are the same as any good teaching, but we will focus on to what that looks like online, what tools and technologies are available to you, and how to work with them to deliver an active learning experience for your students.Registration Form | https://survey.viu.ca/blendedonline.aspxMore Info: http://wordpress.viu.ca/ciel/2017/10/26/blended-and-online-learning/ Location | Nanaimo Campus Building 305, Room 509Deadline to Register | November 29Questions | maxwell.stevenson@viu.ca |Centre for Innovation and Excellence in Learningtrue
