Add to CalendarA Global Perspective on Indigenous Teaching and Learning: What Can We Learn from New Zealand?10/06/2016 11:30 AM10/06/2016 01:30 PMMM/DD/YYYYAmerica/VancouverAs part of our commitment to supporting professional development around incorporating Indigenous knowledge and perspectives into teaching and learning at VIU, the Centre for Innovation and Excellence in Learning together with the Office of Aboriginal Education and Engagement invites faculty, staff and students to a public discussion session with Ron Bull, senior Indigenous scholar from Otago Polytechnic in New Zealand. As a senior lecturer, Ron is involved in building confidence in his institution’s staff in working with Indigenous peoples, and in incorporating Indigenous knowledge into curriculum design.  Ron has also recently been appointed Acting Kaitohutohu, a senior leadership position focusing on the formation and implementation of Otago Polytechnic’s Maori Strategic Framework, a document informing how indigenous knowledge and values are integrated at various levels in the institution.We are honoured to have Ron join us to share some of his stories in this area in higher education, and invite members of our own community to attend, listen, ask questions and discuss this topic further.An informal lunch will be served starting at 11:30 am; session will begin at 12:00 pm and go until approximately 1:30 pm.
