Support for Teaching Online

What tools are available for online teaching and learning at VIU?


VIULearn is VIU’s Learning Management System. Blank course spaces are automatically created for all academic and trades courses (as well as online Professional Development  courses). Students and the instructor of record are automatically enrolled. Within VIULearn, you can:

  • Upload documents 
  • Share links to resources and media
  • Gather student work 
  • Have asynchronous online discussions 
  • Run quizzes or surveys 
  • Give students feedback and grades 
  • Email your students

VIUOnline Rooms (Zoom) 

VIUOnline Rooms provides web-based video and audio conferencing system which allows real-time communication between instructors and students. You can use VIUOnline Rooms to:

  • Host synchronous meetings with students or colleagues
  • Hold virtual office hours 
  • Record online sessions 


VIUTube is VIU’s media streaming service. With VIUTube, you can:

  • Upload videos
  • Capture your screen and camera
  • Share videos in a course or website 
  • Ask students to create videos


VIUBlogs is VIU’s WordPress platform. With VIUBlogs employees and students can:

  • Create a course website, personal website, or blog
  • Ask students to create online content on their own, or collaboratively
  • Upload images or files to share with the VIU community or beyond 

Who can access these tools? 

VIULearn, VIUTube, and VIUBlogs

Current employees and VIU students with active computer accounts have access to these tools.

VIU Online Rooms (Zoom) 

All VIU employees are able to create a VIU Online Rooms (Zoom) account. Students do not need an account to join a meeting hosted by a VIU employee. 

How do I access these tools? 


  1. Go to 
  2. Log in using your VIU Computer Account

  2. Click Login with your VIU account
  3. Enter your login information 

VIU Online Rooms (Web)

  1. Go to 
  2. Click Employee Login 
  3. Log in using your VIU Computer Account

If this is the first time you have logged in to VIU Online Rooms, a Licensed (formerly called Pro) account will be automatically created for you. If you created an account prior to March 17, 2020 and require a licensed account, please send a request by email to

VIU Online Rooms (Zoom app) 

  1. Open the Zoom app on your device 
  2. Select SSO from the login options available
  3. Enter VIU as your domain name 
  4. Enter your VIU Computer Account credentials 


  1. Go to 
  2. Click Guest in the upper right corner of the page
  3. Choose Login from the menu that opens 
  4. Login using your VIU Computer Account

The Centre for Innovation and Excellence in Learning has built a course to walk you through what you need to know in order to get started online.

You can sign up for that course with these steps: 

  1. Log in to
  2. On you homepage, click Discover in the navigation bar
  3. Click on VIU Teaching and Learning Technology Orientation for Employees
  4. Click Enroll 
  5. Click Open Course to go to the course home page
