Online environments provide an opportunity for ongoing and meaningful feedback on student work. Students can engage in self-assessments, peer review, discussion and reflection while receiving timely formative evaluation.  

Online contributions may also be visible to other students in the class, providing an opportunity for collaborative learning, peer review and debate.  

Some ideas for providing online feedback and evaluation: 

  • Consider having students maintain learning logs in discussion forums or blogs
  • Encourage frequent discussion and reflection online following class discussion or seminars
  • Provide self-assessment quizzes to allow students to test their knowledge of a subject
  • Run frequent low stake quizzes for students to test their knowledge
