Creating a Link in Content

If you want to link to activities or items within your VIULearn course, please see Adding Quicklinks to Your VIULearn Files.

Links are the perfect way to bring external resources into your course. When added in the content area links give students quick access to these links. Links are a useful way of providing additional resources. No one wants to scroll through hundreds of pages of text documents – that’s simply not how we’re used to experiencing the web. Good online courses enhance learning by including videos, interactive activities, podcasts, and other multimedia elements.  Links allows an instructor to bring these resources into their courses. Sometimes, it’s still helpful to give students ways to learn more outside of the prescribed curriculum if they choose to do so. Good online courses provide supplemental ways for students to keep learning, but differentiate that from the core content so that students aren’t overwhelmed.

Creating Links

Links can be an important part of content and allow instructors to bring in external content and resources.

Editing, Updating + Deleting Links

Now that you have added links into your course you will need to occasionally revise or edit the links in your course. You may also realize that there is an error in your link title. The link may be out of date and you want to remove it. CIEL recommends that you review and update your links at the start and end of your course.

Linking to VIU EzProxy Resources

Linking to VIU library resources can be achieved in VIULearn. However, it does take a few extra steps than adding a normal link. These extra steps allow for the opening of library resources both on and off campus.

You are probably wondering why you need to use ezproxy links. These are the reason for using them:

  • Stable links remain accessible over a period of time (are not session-specific)
  • Proxied links can be accessed both on and off campus

You can learn more about ezproxy links on the Library page
