Create a Clip

Video Clips enable you to send a portion of a video, beginning from a chosen start point and extending to the end of the media content. A Video Segment has both a defined start point and a defined end point. Users will be able to see the total duration of the original video but will only be able to play the video from the defined start and end point.

  1. Navigate to VIUTube and select Manage Media.

  2. Find and hover your mouse over the video in question. Click Play to open the video in the Media Player.

  3. Select the Settings wheel. Choose Create Clip.

  4. Choose whether to create a Clip or a Segment. Enter the required information for either a Clip or Segment. A Clip begins playing at the current time shown and plays to the end of the video. A Segment has a defined start and end point. Users will be able to see the total duration of the original video but will only be able to play the video from the defined start and end point.

  5. Click Copy Link to copy the URL for the Video Clip or Segment. Paste the URL into a text editor or browser to access the Clip.

Enabling Viewer Clip and Segment Creation

By default, other users will not be able to create clips or segments of videos that you own in VIUTube. The ability for viewers to create Clips and Segments must be enabled by the Content Creator. This is accessible through the Details pane.

  1. Navigate to the Manage Media area in VIUTube.

  2. Find and hover your mouse over the video in question. Choose More from the menu in the upper-right corner of the thumbnail.

  3. Select Links.

  4. Click Enable on Allow Viewers to Create Sub-Clips.

  5. Click Save Links to save your changes.

Please Note:
If you create a copy or clip of a video on https://viuvideos.viu.ca after July 4, 2022 this content will not be migrated to your media collection on the new platform. If you need to edit or create a clip of media in your VIUTube collection before it is migrated to the new platform we strongly recommend you download the source file and then either edit offline or upload your file into the new interface to edit there.
