Download Student Submissions

Providing feedback on an Assignment Submission folder can help your learners understand what they need to do to improve their performance. Although you can provide feedback directly within VIULearn, many instructors prefer to download student's submissions to mark offline by printing, using track changes in Word, or by another method. If you use this method and grade the submissions digitally, you can also bulk upload those files back to the students so that they may view them in VIULearn.

  1. Select Assessment from the course navigation bar. Select Assignments from the dropdown menu.

  2. Click on the name of the Assignment Submission folder in question.

  3. Make sure all your students are listed on the same page. If they are not, scroll down and select 200 per page from the input field in the bottom right hand corner of the page.

  4. Click the checkbox in the upper left hand corner of the table to select all the students on the page.

  5. Click the Download button.

  6. It may take a few minutes for all the documents to be prepared for you to download. Once VIULearn has finished preparing the documents, click the blue Download button.

  7. A ZIP file containing your student's submissions will be download to your device. Unzip the file to open and view the downloaded documents.

Please Note: Each student's submission will have a unique identifier code in the name of the submission. You can edit and add comments to the document itself; however, if you are looking to bulk upload these submissions back to VIULearn, this unique identifier must not be edited or removed. It is recommended that you not make any changes to the name of the downloaded files to minimize potential challenges when uploading your feedback files.

  1. Select Assessment from the course navigation bar. Select Assignments from the dropdown menu.

  2. Click on the name of the Assignment Submission folder in question.

  3. Click the Add Feedback Files button.

  4. Drag an drop the zipped folder with students submissions into the upload field. Alternatively, click the Upload button and find and select the zipped folder you wish to upload.

  5. It may take a few minutes for your file to upload. Once your file has finished uploading, click the blue Add button.

  6. It may take a few minutes for the files to be extracted. Once your files have been extracted, you will receive a confirmation message at the bottom of the screen. You can then review these feedback files by clicking on the name of one of your students.
