View Your Course as a Student

VIULearn gives you the ability to role switch so you can view your course content and many activities as a student. For some activities, such as quizzes, the student view will not allow you to try out the full activity. Those elements of your course offer a preview function which lets you take a quiz as a learner and even view your previewed attempt in the grading screen.

  1. From any page within your VIULearn course, click your profile icon in the mini bar.

  2. On the menu that appears, click View as Student. If you see View as Instructor instead, click Change to select the student role.

  3. You will now be able to view your course content as a learner would see it. Note: VIULearn will treat you as a learner who is enrolled in all groups for the course. You will be able to see all group restricted topics and items.

  4. When you are finished previewing your course, click your profile icon in the mini bar again.

  5. Click the x next to Viewing as Student to return to the instructor view.

  1. Go to the quiz tool by selecting Assessment and then Quizzes in the course navigation bar.

  2. Click the arrow next to the quiz you want to preview and select Preview from the menu that appears.

  3. You will be taken to the quiz details page. Click Start Quiz to begin the preview attempt.

    • If you would like to confirm that your start & end dates are working as expected, click the checkbox next to the bypass restrictions text. Doing so will mean that you won't be able to bypass any restrictions that have been put in place and you will not be able to begin a quiz attempt if your students are not able to begin a quiz attempt.
  4. Take the quiz. When you have finished responding to the questions, click the Submit Quiz button.

  5. On the quiz confirmation screen, you can check the box for Allow this preview attempt to be graded in the Grade Quiz area to save your previewed attempt and view it later in the grading screen.

  6. Click Submit Quiz.

  7. You will see the current quiz result display that has been set.

  8. Click Exit Preview.

  1. Go to the quiz tool by selecting Assessment and then Quizzes in the course navigation bar.

  2. Click the arrow next to the quiz in question and select Grade from the menu that appears.

  3. Click Show Search Options (if Search Options are already shown, you will see Hide Search Options instead).

  4. Change the Restrict To drop-down to show Users who have previewed attempts.

  5. Click the magnifying class in the search box.

  6. Scroll down to the search results and click on the previewed attempt you want to grade.
