Enter Grades

If you have graded assessments for your course which are not associated with an assignment submission folder, discussion topic, or quiz in VIULearn, you will need to enter the grades manually. You may also choose to enter grades for assessments done in VIULearn manually rather than having the tools automatically import students' grades.

  1. From the course navigation bar, click Assessment and then Grades

  2. From the manage grades view, use the arrow to the right of the grade item and choose Enter Grades

  3. Type the score that the student achieved on the assessment in the Grade column.

  4. If you wish to provide feedback, click on the pencil icon under the Feedback column and type your feedback into the field provided.

  5. You will only see the Assessment column if you have a rubric attached to the grade item. If you have attached a rubric to the grade item, click on the rubric icon in this column to enter feedback using the rubric.

  6. Make sure to use the Save button at the bottom of the screen once you have finished entering grades.

    Please Note: If you have more then one screen of student's in your course, make sure you click the Save button at the bottom of the screen before navigating to the next page, or else your assessment will not be saved. 

Manually Enter Grades in Bulk using the Spreadsheet View

There are two ways to manually input grades from the enter grades area. Above, you saw how to use the Enter Grades option. The second option is to switch the screen to the Spreadsheet View in the Enter Grades tab.

From spreadsheet view, you can manually enter grades as if it were an Excel spreadsheet. You won't be able to provide written feedback in this view, but the spreadsheet view can still be useful if you wish to quickly insert grades into multiple grade items at once. Consider adjusting your personal display options to make the spreadsheet view more user friendly for you.

  1. From the course navigation bar, click Assessment and then Grades.

  2. Click the Enter Grades tab at the top of the page. 

  3. Click the Switch to Spreadsheet View button. 

  4. Enter your student's grades into the input field provided in the appropriate column.

  5. Click the blue Save to save your changes.

  6. Once you have finished, you can switch back to the Standard View by clicking the Switch to Standard View button.
