Fix an incorrectly keyed question
If you have administered a quiz to students in VIULearn and realize after the fact that an automatically marking question has been keyed incorrectly, it is possible to update the quiz question so that students who selected the correct answer that was incorrectly keyed will automatically receive points. It is also possible to take away points if a student has selected an incorrect answer that was incorrectly keyed as correct.
Before re-grading student attempts, you want to make sure that you have fixed the underlying problem with your question in the Question Library and in any quizzes where that question is used.
- From the course navigation bar, select Assessment. From the dropdown menu, select Quizzes.
- Click the Question Library tab.
- Find and click on the name of the question.
- Select the correct answer.
- Once you have finished making changes, click the blue Save button.
- If this question has been inserted into other quizzes, you should receive another screen asking if you would like to update the question in your other quizzes. Select all the quizzes that the question has been used in. Then click the blue Save button. Doing so will mean that all future attempts at the quiz will be keyed using your newly adjusted question.
- From the course navigation bar, select Assessment. From the dropdown menu, select Quizzes.
- Click the arrow next to the quiz in question. Select Grade from the dropdown menu.
- Click the Questions tab.
- Click the checkbox next to the Update All Attempts option.
- Click on the name of the question. If you have already fixed the question in the Question Library, the original (incorrectly keyed) question will appear at the bottom of this page under the heading Questions that are not in the quiz anymore.
- Underneath the Grading Type heading, select the appropriate option:
- If you would like to give students full marks on this question regardless of their choice, click the checkbox next to Give to all attempts __ points and insert a point value into the input field provided.
- If you would like to give students points for a correct answer that was incorrectly keyed as incorrect, click the checkbox next to Give to attempts with answer __ ___ points. Select the Answer from the drop-down menu in the first input field and assign the number of points students should receive for that answer in the second input field.

Reopen a student's quiz attempt
Quizzes with time limits automatically submit when the time runs out. This may result in students having an incomplete quiz submitted when they experience technical issues. If this happens, or you want to give a student time to finish their attempt after they submitted it, you can reopen their existing attempt and grant additional minutes for them to complete the quiz.
-
From the course navigation bar, select Assessment and then Quizzes.
-
Click the arrow next to the quiz in question. Select Grade from the dropdown menu.
-
Check the box next to the student(s) you want to reopen attempts for
-
Click the reopen button located at the top of the table of user attempts
-
Enter how much extra time you want to add to the attempts
-
Click reopen attempt
Note: when you reopen an attempt, the student carries on with that attempt and can make changes to any of their answers. If you want to give students an entirely new attempt rather than reopening the initial attempt, you can do this using Special Access
