Export Your Site

VIUBlogs is powered by WordPress. When you leave VIU, you can export your blog, website, or eportfolio created in VIUBlogs and upload it to another WordPress or compatible website. 

Export Your Site

  1. Log in to VIUBlogs and navigate to your Dashboard 
  2. In the navigation bar on the left side of the screen select Tools and then Export.
  3. Select what content you want to export. You can choose to export everything (All content) or choose to only export Posts, Pages, Contact Forms, or Media. 
  4. Click the blue Download Export File button. 
  5. Your blog will download as an XML file. This XML file can be imported directly into another WordPress site or any other compatible platform. 

Export Media

When exporting media that has been uploaded to your VIUBlog site, your media files will be stored in an XML file and cannot be accessed or viewed unless that XML file is uploaded to another WordPress installation. If you would like to export and save the media files that has been uploaded to your site, you can do so by enabling the Bulk Attachment Download Plugin. Once you have done so, you will be given the option to download all the media files that are stored in your Media Library.

  1. On the Dashboard of your VIUBlog site, click Plugins in the navigation sidebar. 
  2. Scroll down to the Bulk Attachment Download heading. 
  3. Click the Activate button. 
  4. Click the Skip button. 
  1. On the Dashboard of your VIUBlog site, click Media in the navigation sidebar. 
  2. If you are not in the list view, click the list icon.
  3. Click the Screen Options in the upper right hand corner. 
  4. In the Number of items per page field, type 999 to ensure that all your media is listed on the same page. 
  5. Click the Apply button.
  6. Now that all your media is listed on the same page, click the checkbox in the upper left hand corner of the table to select all your media. 
  7. Click the Bulk Actions input field. Select Download from the dropdown menu.
  8. Click the Apply button. 
  9. If you would like all your media to be place all within the same ZIP folder, click the checkbox next to the Single folder download heading. Otherwise, your media will be sorted into sub-folders within your ZIP folder. 
  10. Give your Downloaded ZIP folder a name (this will make it easier to find later). 
  11. Click the Create download button. 
  12. Click the Download button to download the ZIP folder containing all your media files.
